The poor faries!

It is hard to be a fairy. A log string of continuous unfortunate events indeed has plagued them. So if they lose their majik, only G-d can save them!

Butterflies?!

"Men look at attractive women the way women look at pretty butterflies."

Wellllllll.......

It is too late!

It is too late! A smart man said so. So there!

Like I tell my students

Like I tell my students all the time, "We are becomming the Borg!"

And you know what? Maybe its OK.

Which is better?

Of course we all know the answer. Dur!

No joke.

This was posted on a discussion board about the volcano in Island. No joke!

"I believe the great glacier melts coming from the Arctic and Antarctic are makingthe seas heavier, and thus putting a greater amount of weight on the sea floor -- also the continental plates. At the bottom of the oceans, water is heavy and even a small increase of weight could pressure the plates into uncharacteristic movements. That may be what is causing the increase of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions witnessed this Spring. Of course I hope that's not true, and that we are able to get control of global warming."

Any scientista want to chime in an discuss this?

I had to.

Its so bad!

Denial?

I'm glad that I think the female body is,usually, beautiful. (But something about these girls turns my stomach. Not really sure why!), And I freely acknowledge that all humans are born without clothes on. If I did not, I'd apparently be a homosexual.

Now, just because I appreciate the aesthetics of women's bodies, and know that all are born unclothed, this does not mean that I am not gay. Why, that would be a illogical fallacy!

And just in case you went by the gay-is-as-gay-does mantra, no more can you hide your ambiguous sexuality behind such fleeting shadows! Men who have sex with men are not necessarily gay either. The UN even says so.

So how do I, a man married for five years, know that I am not gay? Or should I even care? Could gay be passe?

Limitations?

On the Assessment Listserv that I am subscribed to, someone asked a question about how long one should hold on to assessment materials. Here was my reply.

Let me introduce this with a story:

During my undergraduate years, I worked in the Office of Admissions. One day, in the basement of the building that formerly housed Mortuary Science, while helping someone retrieve something, my curiosity was piqued by the endless labyrinth of file cabinets. Opening one of these ancient, musty repositories with some effort, I beheld admission records - from the 1950's! Reportedly the college policy was to hold these for 101 years after the student either entered or left the college. Thus even academia has statutes of limitations.

Seriously, I think we should either keep these materials for a period of time comparable to that for all other records, such as admissions records, for the sake of being consistent, or else only until after all accreditation visit business is completed, including follow up and responses to the accreditor's reports.

A short arbitrary holding time seems silly (e.g., 3.14 years), but do we really need to hold presentation portfolios (and admissions records)for, say, 101 years?

My only concern is that dumping "evidence" will look like a cover up. But is anyone going to audit anything more that 10 years old?
